We’ve upped our game at the Friday tasting bench by introducing a varietal tasting – Tempranillo was first cab off the rank. For this inaugural session we invited two winemakers along to show off their respective Tempranillos (and stir each other up!) – Genevieve Mann from Corymbia and Mark Messenger from Juniper Estate. Tempranillo has been increasing in popularity and their local gems stacked up well against these wines from the east side. Stay tuned for future themed tastings at Settlers.
Juniper Small Batch Tempranillo – Margaret River $24.99
Mark Messenger was on hand to pour his Temp and talk us through his methods. Joven stylin’ with black cherry fruit and spices with that distinctive dusty tannin grip. Sweet/savoury in classic Temp way.
Tomfoolery Burla Negra Tempranillo- Barossa Valley $22.99
Named for the Spanish pirate ship the Burla Negra or ‘Black Joke’ of the sea. Bold berry fruits and savoury herbs that walk the plank to a toasty oak finish.
Ministry of Clouds Tempranillo/Granache – McLaren Vale $29.99
This popular wine partners two Spanish varieties in a friendly juicy blend with flavours of red berries, pomegranate and sarsaparilla. Party juice.
Corymbia Tempranillo/Cabernet – Swan Valley $39.99
Winemaker Genevieve Mann was at the tasting bench to show off the beautiful Corymbia 2014. Swan Valley Tempranillo fruit with some Cabernet rounding out the edges- a seductive wine with flavours of dark berries and hazelnuts with a savoury finish. Ideal with a meal.
